The House Oversight Committee has alleged that Hunter Biden “was given special privileges not afforded to other Americans” while under the supervision of U.S. Attorney David Weiss. Remarkably, Weiss is currently serving as special counsel in the DOJ’s probe of Hunter Biden, despite his previous link to the president’s son.
On X, the committee released a bullet-point list of alleged special privileges that the younger Biden enjoyed, along with an attached letter sent from the chairmen of three House committees (Judiciary, Ways and Means, Oversight and Accountability) to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.
They accused Weiss of protecting Hunter Biden via the following allegations:
- “The DOJ tipping off Hunter Biden’s counsel,
- Allowing the statute of limitations to lapse on tax charges,
- Suggestions to remove Hunter Biden’s name from documents, including subpoenas,
- Prohibiting IRS and FBI investigators from asking about or referring to ‘the big guy’ or ‘dad’ in witness interviews[.]”
House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo., and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., have joined together to demand all documents and communications related to U.S. Attorney David Weiss’s appointment as special counsel. They requested “additional scope memoranda, directives, or instructions from the Office of the Attorney General” related to the special counsel appointment.
Weiss was appointed as special counsel in the Biden probe in early August.
At the time, Rep. Comer stated that the appointment was part of an alleged broader scheme by the DOJ “to attempt a Biden family coverup in light of @GOPOversight’s mounting evidence of President Biden’s role in his family’s schemes selling ‘the brand’ for millions of dollars to foreign nationals.”
If reelected as president again in 2024, President Donald Trump has promised to “appoint a real special counsel” to investigate the “bribes, kickbacks, crimes, as well as the shameless attempt to cover up” in relation to the Biden family.
