As President Donald J. Trump continues his peacemaking deals in the Middle East, it remains important to highlight the significance of the 2020 Abraham Accords. Considered a major policy endeavor of President Trump and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, the Abraham Accords pushed to normalize relations between Israel and its neighbors.

Specifically, the goal sought to build economic cooperation, security, and peace in the Middle East. Israel, recognized as a nation in 1948 by President Harry S. Truman, faced constant attacks from its neighbors, who refused to accept the newly formed nation as a Jewish state.

Generations have passed, and Israel remains the sole democracy in the Middle East and the nation that serves as home to the Jewish people. The Abraham Accords pushed to bring peace among Jews, Muslims, and Christians. The three monotheistic religions all derive from the biblical figure Abraham, which the Trump administration emphasized as a connection to bring peace among the three major religions.

Seen as one of Trump’s most significant achievements, nations such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco agreed to normalize relations with Israel. Relations were further strengthened between Israel, Egypt and Jordan during Trump’s first term in office. This week’s historic meeting of President Trump and Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa further demonstrated Trump’s goal to bring peace to the Middle East, as the President of the United States firmly demanded that Syria normalize its relations with Israel.

Likewise, most political pundits continue to watch the regime of Saudi Arabia and its relations with Israel, as signs have continuously formed that they, too, may normalize relations, largely credited to Trump’s original Abraham Accords.

While all three major religions, Jews, Muslims and Christians, admit their religious differences are noteworthy and of extreme importance, the end goal is one of economic stability and peace.

Trump’s approach has been different from that of the so-called experts of past decades. While others focused on endless talks and international organizations, Trump went straight to the leaders, face-to-face, and achieved real results. He did not just talk about peace, he secured written agreements that changed the course of history.

Time will tell how far the Abraham Accords go and whether more nations join the effort. However, one thing is certain: these agreements marked a turning point in Middle East diplomacy. Peace can happen when you have strong leaders with a great vision.

When history is written, the Abraham Accords, especially if they grow into other nations in the coming years, could be remembered as the greatest achievement of President Trump’s presidency. In a region long known for war, terrorism, and instability, the idea of nations laying down their arms and shaking hands seemed almost unthinkable. Yet, President Trump made it possible through the concept of peace through strength, which is undeniably the legacy of the Abraham Accords.
