Amid Elon Musk’s bid to buy Twitter to combat the platform’s current anti-speech protocol, a new poll shows that many Americans believe the Tesla CEO should reinstate President Trump’s account if his takeover is successful.
According to a Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,000 American adults, 46 percent believe Musk should reinstate Trump’s account, with 43 percent opposing the notion.
Demographically, Republicans and Independents largely support the idea, while Democrats overwhelmingly reject it.
After the multi-billionaire entrepreneur declined membership on the Twitter board of directors despite having a 9.2 percent stake in the company, Americans were left wondering what Musk is up to.
Days later, Musk offered to buy “100% of Twitter for $54.20 per share in cash.”
“I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy,” Musk claimed. “However, since making my investment I now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form. Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company.”
It is evident Musk is willing to fight for free speech if he were to lead the platform; however, that may not be enough to drive the 45th president back to Twitter.
While Trump has publicly expressed respect for Musk, he recently told Americano Media he doesn’t have any interest in returning to the platform even if Musk bought the company.
“Twitter’s become very boring. They’ve gotten rid of a lot of good voices on Twitter, a lot of their conservative voices,” the 45th president said.
Trump instead promoted his highly successful social media platform, Truth Social.
