With less than three months until President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris face off in the presidential election, new polling data shows where the two respective nominees stand on major issues.
According to the latest Fox News survey of 1,105 Registered Voters, Trump led his chief opponent nationally by just one percentage point (50 to 49 percent) in a two-way race.
In July, Harris trailed Trump by the same amount (48 to 49 percent), along with Joe Biden, who fared the same in a two-way-race against the Republican nominee as his vice president, Fox News reported.
In a match-up against third-party candidates, both major party nominees received 45 percent, while Independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. garnered six percent. All other candidates earned just one percent.
When asked who they trusted to do a better job on a series of key issues, including the economy, border security, immigration, abortion, healthcare, guns, foreign policy, crime, uniting the country, Supreme Court nominations and climate change, respondents said that Trump would do the best job solving the majority of the issues.
On the economy, which respondents called the most important issue, Trump received a surplus of support (52 to 46 percent) over Harris. The majority of the respondents further said the president was better equipped to tackle gun policy (50 to 47 percent), foreign policy (52 to 45 percent) and crime (51 to 46 percent).
Trump earned his highest marks on the issues of border security (58 to 39 percent) and immigration (56 to 42 percent).
Harris earned her highest amount of support on the issue of climate change (57 to 39 percent), along with a plurality of support for her handling of abortion (56 to 40 percent). She also scored higher marks than the president for issues like healthcare (54 to 44 percent), uniting the country (50 to 45 percent) and Supreme Court nominations (50 to 47 percent).
While the election may certainly be close, there is no denying that the president has the upper hand on the two most pressing issues: the economy and immigration.
Trump holding the majority of support from voters on six of these 11 issues, along with his close polling on two more issues for which he lags behind Harris, could be a warning sign to Democrats in the upcoming election.
