A roadway near President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in South Florida will soon carry his name, following approval from state lawmakers and the governor.
The Palm Beach County Commission voted Tuesday evening on a resolution that would designate a four-mile portion of Southern Boulevard, running from Palm Beach International Airport to Mar-a-Lago, as “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard.” The renaming will be honorary, with signs installed along the route, though the roadway will officially retain the Southern Boulevard name for mailing and emergency services.
The president expressed his gratitude in a post to Truth Social.
“It has been brought to my attention that the Great State of Florida, which I won BIG three times, and where I am a proud Resident, has renamed an important four-mile stretch of Southern Boulevard, in Palm Beach County, to ‘PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP BOULEVARD,’” Trump wrote.
“Thank you to Palm Beach County, Governor Ron DeSantis, and all of Florida’s great State Lawmakers, on granting me this wonderful honor! I LOVE FLORIDA!” he added.
Florida’s Republican-led Legislature approved the designation earlier this year, and Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the measure into law last month. Local approval is required before the Florida Department of Transportation can install signage.
“The great state of Florida is honoring President Donald J. Trump, whose beautiful Mar-a-Lago Club is a long-standing staple in the Sunshine State,” White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers said in a statement.
“Renaming this road to ‘Donald J. Trump Boulevard’ commemorates his iconic legacy and the historically significant moments that have made this President the greatest of all time,” he continued.
Rogers also noted Trump’s move to Florida in 2019 and praised the state’s voters, saying, “The President will always be grateful to Floridians for their unwavering support as MAGA loyalists, who voted for him all three times.”
According to a January report by USA Today, lawmakers in states such as Arizona, Kentucky and Missouri have introduced similar measures. Other locations in Montana and Oklahoma have already approved renaming roads after Trump.
