President Donald Trump is set to make a highly-anticipated appearance at the National Rifle Association’s annual conference in Indianapolis on Friday, April 14.
The Hill reported Tuesday that Trump, along with political rival Governor Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., former Vice President Mike Pence, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, and others will all be speaking at the event, either in person or via video message.
This will be Trump’s first official speech since his arraignment, besides the press conference, which will likely draw a massive crowd of NRA members and supporters.
As a vocal supporter of gun rights, Trump’s appearance at the conference is especially significant given recent headlines. As reported by Reuters, the U.S. Justice Department has asked the Supreme Court to allow a federal law to stand that makes it a crime for people under domestic violence restraining orders to own firearms.
The topic of guns, gun control, the liberties of the Second Amendment, and the relationship between them has certainly radiated throughout the news lately.
There was the recent mass shooting in Tennessee which Fox News reported drew a bevy of protestors to the State Capitol building to “end gun violence.” The swarm of protestors was in response to the recent shooting in Nashville where a heavily armed 28-year-old fatally shot three children and three adult staffers last month at a private Christian school. The suspect reportedly once attended the same school. Police quickly shot and killed the assailant on the scene.
Trump remains a popular figure among gun rights advocates and has been endorsed by the NRA in the past. His appearance at the conference is likely to energize the crowd and galvanize support for the cause of Second Amendment rights.
