President Donald Trump announced Wednesday night that every active-duty member of the U.S. armed forces will receive a $1,776 Christmas bonus, unveiling what he called the “Warrior Dividend” during a nationally televised prime-time address from the White House.

The president said the one-time payment will be distributed to about 1.45 million service members, with checks already being sent and expected to arrive before Christmas. He said the dollar amount was chosen to commemorate the nation’s founding in 1776, ahead of the United States’ 250th anniversary, which will be marked throughout the coming year.

“I am also proud to announce that 1,450,000 military service members will receive a special — we call Warrior Dividend — before Christmas, a Warrior Dividend in honor of our nation’s founding in 1776,” President Trump said during the address.

“We are sending every soldier $1,776. The checks are already on the way,” he said. “Nobody deserves it more than our military. And I say congratulations to everybody.”

The military bonus was a central feature of the president’s year-end address, which the White House described as a review of economic gains and changes during his second term, along with projections for the year ahead. President Trump focused heavily on revenue growth, job creation, and what he described as improvements in federal finances.

President Trump linked the bonus to increased government revenue from tariffs and recent legislation, arguing that tougher trade enforcement and economic policy changes generated higher-than-expected returns.

The president portrayed the payment as both financial support and symbolic recognition of military service, saying it reflected an administration that prioritizes service members and their families while delivering benefits without increasing federal debt.

The address marked President Trump’s final planned nationally televised speech of the year and capped a broader messaging push centered on economic performance. The president highlighted tariff revenue, domestic manufacturing investment, and wage growth, saying those factors allowed for what he described as immediate and meaningful relief.

President Trump has faced criticism from opponents who argue his administration has not focused enough on affordability and economic well-being. He has repeatedly cited support for the military as a defining feature of his presidency, pointing to increased defense funding, pay raises, and expanded benefits. President Trump said the Warrior Dividend builds on those efforts by providing a direct payment while tying economic policy to national defense.
