Coal miners across the country awarded President Donald Trump the title of champion of clean coal on Wednesday.
Breitbart reported that on behalf of coal miners in the country, the CEO of Peabody Energy, James Grech, presented President Trump with the award for “undisputed champion of beautiful clean coal.” Grech presented the trophy to President Trump in the East Room of the White House.
Shortly after being awarded, President Trump signed an executive order directing the Department of War to prioritize buying power from America’s coal industry. The White House, in a press release, said:
“Today, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order directing the Department of War to prioritize long-term Power Purchase Agreements with America’s beautiful, clean coal fleet to ensure military installations and critical defense facilities have uninterrupted, on-demand baseload power.”
During his speech on Wednesday, President Trump praised the hardworking coal miners in the industry, “I’m thrilled to welcome to the White House the men and women who light our cities… heat our homes, fuel our factories, and turn natural resources into American riches and dreams — our amazing coal miners.”
The executive order is intended to strengthen the grid and economic stability and to push America toward energy dominance. President Trump told coal miners on Wednesday, “We’re bringing back an industry that was abandoned.”
Since taking office last year, President Trump has increased wages for miners by more than $ 2,000. Breitbart reported that President Trump called out Joe Biden’s administration, saying, “And I’ll give you the bad news, it’s the first time that that’s happened in more than 27 years. Those other presidents didn’t take good care of you.”
It’s not just coal miners who have praised President Trump for his commitment to the industry’s goals. In a press release, Mike Kelly from Pennsylvania, a state that produces the third-most coal in the country, praises President Trump:
“This executive order is a big win for Pennsylvania’s coal industry and our hardworking coal miners,” he added. “From day one, President Trump has committed to common-sense energy policy and to expanding American energy production. This executive order delivers on that promise.”
