President Donald Trump endorsed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for the country’s upcoming national election.

The endorsement follows Vice President JD Vance rallying with Orbán at a campaign event in Budapest on Tuesday, stumping to secure a key Trump administration ally in Europe ahead of the April 12 election for his ruling Fidesz party.

“Highly Respected Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, is a truly strong and powerful Leader, with a proven track record of delivering phenomenal results,” President Trump wrote Thursday in a post to Truth Social. “He fights tirelessly for, and loves, his Great Country and People, just like I do for the United States of America.”

The president further touted Orbán’s successes with Hungary’s security measures, record of economic growth, job and trade protections, and immigration policies.

“Relations between Hungary and the United States have reached new heights of cooperation and spectacular achievement under my Administration, thanks largely to Prime Minister Orbán,” he continued. “I look forward to continuing working closely with him so that both of our Countries can further advance this tremendous path to SUCCESS and cooperation. I was proud to ENDORSE Viktor for Re-Election in 2022, and am honored to do so again.”

Orbán is one of the Trump administration’s most supportive allies in Europe, having a very friendly relationship with the U.S. president. With the Hungarian prime minister fighting hard to win reelection, an endorsement from President Trump, who is popular in Hungary, could help his chances of victory, Politico reported.

Orban is one of the Trump administration’s top allies in Europe, and the president has routinely praised his anti-immigration stance while slamming leadership in the United Kingdom, France and Germany as “weak.” Vance’s visit to the Hungarian prime minister follows a February meeting between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Orban, during which Rubio announced a “Golden Age” in relations between Washington and Budapest.

“Election Day is Sunday, April 12, 2026. Hungary: GET OUT AND VOTE FOR VIKTOR ORBÁN,” the president concluded in his endorsement. “He is a true friend, fighter, and WINNER, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election as Prime Minister of Hungary — VIKTOR ORBÁN WILL NEVER LET THE GREAT PEOPLE OF HUNGARY DOWN.”
