President Trump announced Saturday night to a crowd of eager rally goers that he was supporting Sen. Chuck Grassley for reelection. “I’m thrilled to announce to tonight that Senator Chuck Grassley has my complete and total endorsement for reelection,” Trump said.
Grassley is a United States Senator in Iowa. According to Trump, Grassley has “never missed a vote.”
When Grassley took the stage following Trump’s glowing endorsement, he said, “I was born at night, but not last night, so if I didn’t accept the endorsement of a person who’s got 91 percent of the Republican voters in Iowa, I wouldn’t be too smart!” drawing chuckles from the rally-goers.
“He’s a great guy,” Trump added. “He’s a great gentleman.”
Grassley is up for reelection in the 2022 midterms. The 45th president’s endorsement is one of many, as the Republican Party gears up to attempt to take back the House and the Senate from the Democrats next year.
