President Trump held a solemn moment of silence during his opening remarks at the annual NRA convention on Friday to pay his respects to the victims of the horrific school shooting that took place on Tuesday at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. The shooting resulted in the tragic deaths of 19 children and two adult schoolteachers.
“As we gather this week citizens across this nation and across this state are filled with grief in the wake of Robb Elementary School in Uvalde,” Trump stated. “You know all about that and what a horrible, horrible thing it was – to see it, to watch it, to hear about it.”
Trump then removed a piece of paper from his pocket and requested a moment of silence from the audience while he read the names of the victims, followed by a somber bell tolling for each precious life lost.
“The terrible murder of 19 innocent children and two adult teachers with many badly injured was a savage and barbaric that shocks the conscious of every single American – so horrible,” Trump stated.
Trump additionally called the shooter an “out-of-control lunatic” who was “pure evil.” He concluded, “While those he slaughtered are now with God in heaven…he will be eternally damned to burn in the fires of hell.”
