President Trump eviscerated the current administration’s lax approach to dealing with school shootings during his Friday remarks made in Texas at the annual NRA Convention.
“If the United States has $40 billion dollars to spend on Ukraine, we should be able to do whatever it takes to keep our children safe at home,” he stated, drawing cheers of agreement from the audience.
In the wake of a deadly school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, that claimed the lives of 19 innocent schoolchildren and two teachers, Trump unabashedly ripped the money Congress authorized to send to Ukraine, explaining that the money could be better spent at home.
“Before we nation-build the rest of the world,” he pointed out, “we should be building…safe schools in our own nation.”
Trump revealed a list of security measures that he believes need to be implemented in schools across America. “What we need now is a top to bottom security overhaul at schools all across our country – every building should have a single point of entry,” he said.
The 45th president further cited the mental health crisis in America that has contributed to the rash of mass shootings over the last two decades. “We need to drastically change our approach to mental health…always so many warning signs…almost all of these disfigured minds share the same profile…when people see something whether on social media or in school, they need to say something,” he told the crowd.
Trump also called on Republicans and Democrats alike to unite and “harden” our schools to “protect our children.”
