President Donald Trump continues to enjoy near-unanimous backing from Republican voters, with CNN data showing that 87 percent of Republicans approve of his job performance, a figure unchanged from six months earlier.

The rating places President Trump ahead of every other 21st-century president at the same point in their second terms. Both George W. Bush and Barack Obama held 78 percent approval among their respective party bases during comparable periods.

CNN Chief Data Analyst Harry Enten said the president’s support has shown little movement. “It’s like a rock,” Enten said, referencing Bob Seger. “The Republican base is sticking by Donald Trump at this point in time.” He noted that Trump has not lost any measurable GOP support in the last half year, even as political debates have shifted nationwide.

Enten also pointed to Trump’s continued influence in Republican primary contests. According to CNN’s review of past races, candidates endorsed by Trump won 98 percent of the time in 2020 GOP congressional and gubernatorial primaries. That dominance carried through the next cycles, with a 95 percent success rate in 2022 and a 96 percent rate in 2024.

The data provides context for the recent announcement by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., that she plans to resign from Congress in January. While Greene cited frustration with both parties, Enten noted that “more times than not, when you go up against Donald Trump in a Republican primary, you lose almost all the time,” suggesting President Trump’s dominance may have factored into her decision.

Polling throughout the summer also shows President Trump maintaining or even improving his standing among Republicans. In July and August, his GOP approval ratings rose to 88 percent and 90 percent in CNN and Quinnipiac surveys, respectively, despite heightened public attention to the Epstein case on social media. Enten emphasized that only one Republican in CNN’s polling identified Epstein-related issues as a top national concern.

Meanwhile, a separate Associated Press poll recorded President Trump’s overall job approval climbing to 45 percent, the highest of his presidency, following his deployment of the National Guard to address violent crime in Washington, D.C.
