President Trump may soon address the Israeli Knesset in the coming days as he considers flying overseas to solidify the final stages of his 20-point peace plan to bring an end to the conflict in Gaza.
This revelation comes after the president told the press, during a Thursday cabinet meeting, that he may fly to Egypt soon to have an “official signing” on the peace plan, which has currently been agreed to by both Hamas and Israel, marking the first phase of the agreement.
Hamas is expected to return the Israeli hostages between Monday and Tuesday of next week, President Trump said.
“I think it’s going to be a lasting peace,” he remarked.
The president also noted that he had been invited to speak at the Israeli Knesset – Israel’s unicameral legislative and parliamentary body.
“They’ve asked me to speak at the Knesset, and I’ve agreed to,” President Trump said on Thursday. “If they would like me to, I will do it. It’s the first time a president has ever done that, so this makes it really interesting.”
While this would not be the first time a sitting U.S. president has addressed the Knesset, it would mark the first time a president has brought such widespread peace to the Middle East.
The modern conflict between Israel and Gaza has raged for decades. President Trump often says the conflict has been going on for thousands of years, referring to the ancient history between what many believe to be the Abrahamic lineage of both groups. Many believe that the modern clash between the Jewish people and the Arab nations is an echo of an age-old conflict between the children of Isaac (the Jewish people) and the children of Ishmael (said to be Arab).
Regardless of what position Americans have on this subject, President Trump’s work to broker a peace deal of this magnitude in the Middle East has historic significance. It has united many Middle Eastern nations behind one goal: peace.
“They’ve all come together,” President Trump said.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said shortly after the peace agreement was announced that this was a “national and moral victory for the State of Israel.”
“Through steadfast resolve, powerful military action, and the great efforts of our great friend and ally President Trump, we have reached this critical turning point,” he wrote.
The prime minister continued, “I thank President Trump for his leadership, his partnership, and his unwavering commitment to the safety of Israel and the freedom of our hostages.”
According to Israel National News on X, the Knesset building in Israel is lit up in red, white, and blue ahead of a potential visit from President Donald Trump.
