President Donald Trump welcomed Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to the Oval Office on Tuesday, where the two leaders discussed a wide range of issues like tariffs, auto manufacturing, and the president’s 20-point peace deal to end the conflict in Gaza.

“It’s an honor to have the Prime Minister of Canada [here],” President Trump said. “…We have some natural conflict, but we will probably work that out; but we’ve had a very strong relationship.”

The president said that he and Prime Minister Carney would discuss trade, as well as the evolving situation in Gaza.

Last week, President Trump put forth a peace plan that could potentially end the warfare in the Middle East, and it has garnered global support.

“I think there’s a possibility that we could have peace in the Middle East,” the president said on Tuesday.

Carney praised President Trump’s leadership on the situation overseas and noted, “You are a transformative president.”

He also said that Canada stood in support of America’s leadership in its efforts to bring peace to the Middle East.

On the issue of tariffs and auto manufacturing – an industry that affects both Canada and the United States – President Trump said he wanted to see success for both countries.

“We want to make our cars here, and at the same time we want Canada to do well making cars,” he said.

The president emphasized the domestic investments that his administration has attracted since taking office in January. He said the U.S. has garnered $17 trillion in investments. “There’s never been anything like that in the history of the world – not even close,” he remarked.

President Trump further lauded the return of “common sense” in the White House.

“We have a country that’s based on common sense and strength and intelligence,” he stated, noting that Prime Minister Carney would likely agree with him.

“A year ago, we were a dead country,” Trump continued. “Now, we are the hottest country anywhere in the world.”
