President Donald Trump on Thursday reacted to news of California Democrat Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s upcoming retirement with an on-the-nose statement pointedly taking aim at her decades-long political career.

“The retirement of Nancy Pelosi is a great thing for America,” the president told Fox News’ Peter Doocy in a text statement.

The president continued, “She was evil, corrupt, and only focused on bad things for our country. She was rapidly losing control of her party, and it was never coming back. I’m very honored she impeached me twice and failed miserably twice. Nancy Pelosi is a highly overrated politician.”

Pelosi, who also served two stints as the first and only female Speaker of the House of Representatives, announced on Thursday that she would not seek re-election in 2026, ensuring her retirement from politics in 2027, according to The New York Times.

Pelosi’s career has spanned decades. She has been a vocal critic of President Trump and his agenda, and in 2020, she infamously tore the president’s State of the Union speech into pieces on live television.

Her two terms as Speaker of the House were separated by several years – first, she won the job in 2007, and then she won the position again during President Trump’s first term in office in 2019. “Pelosi is the chief architect of generation-defining legislation under two Democratic administrations, including the Affordable Care Act and the American Rescue Plan,” her website said.

Pelosi did indeed spearhead impeachment attempts against President Trump during his first term on two occasions – quests that both failed for Democrats.

She has been a powerful leader in the Democrat Party for many years, and at the age of 85, her retirement hardly comes as a shock. In California, hard-left Democrat State Senator Scott Wiener of San Francisco is running for Pelosi’s congressional seat in 2026, and he is likely to win it.
