President Donald Trump responded on Tuesday after at least 26 tourists were killed by terrorists at a resort in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

The president expressed his support for the Indian people, telling the nation, “Our hearts are with you.”

“Deeply disturbing news out of Kashmir. The United States stands strong with India against Terrorism,” Trump posted to Truth Social shortly after reports of the deadly attack.

“We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Modi, and the incredible people of India, have our full support and deepest sympathies. Our hearts are with you all!” he added.

The Associated Press reported that at least four gunmen were involved in firing at tourists from close range. No group claimed immediate responsibility for the attacks, with the shooters still on the loose.

President JD Vance, currently traveling in India, also condemned the attack.

“Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn this horrific attack,” he posted to X.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the terrorists’ action.

“I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected,” he posted to X.

“Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice…they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger,” he continued.

The recent assault marked the deadliest incident in the conflict-stricken Kashmir region in almost a year, disrupting a period of revived tourism. The previous major attack occurred in June 2024, when militants targeted a bus transporting Hindu pilgrims, leaving nine dead and 33 others wounded.

Another attack took place in 2017, when militants opened fire on a bus returning from the renowned Amarnath Cave Temple in southern Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of eight pilgrims and injuries to 19 more.
