President Donald Trump will meet Tuesday with Edan Alexander, the Israeli-American who was believed to be the last surviving U.S. hostage held by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza before his release in May, the White House said Monday.
The meeting is set to occur on the second anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel by Hamas, which left 1,200 people dead and more than 250 taken hostage.
The president’s meeting with Alexander follows the president’s announcement last week of a proposal outlining a new plan for Gaza’s future. The meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET at the White House.
Delegations from Israel and Hamas met in Egypt on Monday to discuss President Trump’s peace plan. Negotiators are addressing key disputes, including Israel’s potential withdrawal from Gaza and Hamas’ disarmament, according to officials familiar with the talks.
Both Israel and Hamas have expressed conditional support for the plan’s overall framework, which has also received backing from Arab and Western governments. The president has urged both sides to move quickly toward a final peace agreement, vowing to end the Gaza conflict “swiftly and permanently.”
RSBN previously reported Alexander’s release in May. President Trump announced the release on Truth Social.
“EDAN ALEXANDER, AMERICAN HOSTAGE THOUGHT DEAD, TO BE RELEASED BY HAMAS. GREAT NEWS!” wrote in an all-caps post to Truth Social at the time.
“I am happy to announce that Edan Alexander, an American citizen who has been held hostage since October 2023, is coming home to his family. I am grateful to all those involved in making this monumental news happen,” the president stated.
“This was a step taken in good faith towards the United States and the efforts of the mediators — Qatar and Egypt — to put an end to this very brutal war and return ALL living hostages and remains to their loved ones. Hopefully this is the first of those final steps necessary to end this brutal conflict. I look very much forward to that day of celebration!” he added.
