President Trump touts GOP primary winner as ‘fantastic’ future senator

President Trump congratulated Ken Paxton on Wednesday for his victory in the Texas GOP Senate primary. On Tuesday, Paxton defeated incumbent Texas Senator John Cornyn. The president endorsed Paxton late in the race.

On Wednesday, Trump praised Cornyn for his time in the Senate but highlighted Paxton’s victory as a win for the GOP heading into the November midterm elections.

“Congratulations to Ken Paxton on such a tremendous win, and to John Cornyn for having run a strong and powerful race but, more importantly, having had a truly great career,” President Trump said. “John will remain my friend for a long time to come, as we both watch Ken become a fantastic, common sense Senator, one who is respected by all.”

President Trump turned to the next task at hand for the GOP, defeating James Talarico, the Texas Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate. In another Truth Social post on Wednesday, he compared Talarico to Alfred E. Human and claimed his values are the “exact opposite” of the people of Texas.

Talarico has become a prominent figure on the left, both for his progressive stances and for the belief among some strategists that he has a strong chance of flipping a Senate seat for the Democratic Party. Talarico has benefited in part from his willingness to distance himself from unpopular ideologies that alienate more moderate voters. Although Talarico has tried to shift gears and promote a more moderate message, Trump highlighted his past statements, casting him as a far-left radical.

“His opponent, Alfred E. Neuman, may be the worst TEXAS candidate I have ever seen,” President Trump said. “A strong Open Borders advocate, he is WEAK ON CRIME, believes there are 6 genders, is insulting to Jesus Christ, will never support the Military, was a big Mask Wearer until recently, and is a Vegan who dislikes meat, not exactly a good way to be if you’re wanting to win an Election in Texas.”

The president alluded to Talarico’s defeat of former House Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the Texas primary, stating she would have been a better candidate in the general election. He also said he would be actively promoting Paxton on the campaign trail.

“Jasmine Crockett, a very low IQ individual, who is no relation to the legendary frontiersman, Davy Crockett, would have been a far better choice for the Dumocrats,” President Trump said. “I will do some nice, big, beautiful rallies for Ken. Texas, this will be FUN! GOD BLESS AMERICA.”
