President Trump’s endorsements hold strong in GOP primaries

President Trump’s winning streak continued during the Republican primary races held on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the president shared reporting from Fox News showing he had endorsed 118 candidates in U.S. Senate, U.S. House and state gubernatorial races. All 118 of Trump’s choices had won their respective races.

His track record suggests his influence within the GOP is holding steady as he approaches the midpoint of his second term. President Trump’s supporters have pointed out that his agenda is popular with Republican voters, and those who obstruct it become vulnerable to primary challengers. According to Senator Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, the message from Republican voters was clear. “Support the America First agenda or lose your election,” Sen. Moreno said.

Prominent incumbents who lost to challengers endorsed by President Trump included Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La. and House Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky, who lost his primary after a heated race with Trump-backed challenger Ed Gallrein.

Conservative commentators have pointed out the strength of influence President Trump continues to wield within the party. “You may not like it, but you can’t argue with it, Trump is the undisputed king of the Republican party,” said conservative influencer Benny Johnson.

Johnson pointed out the president’s perfect track record so far in GOP Senate primary endorsements, focusing in particular on Ken Paxton’s defeat of incumbent John Cornyn in Texas, whom Johnson described as a “Rino” Republican protected by the Washington establishment. “Trump knows this and he has the instinct to defeat them,” Johnson said.

President Trump’s influence was also on display at the state level in primary elections held earlier this month. In Indiana, Trump’s endorsed candidates unseated five state senators who failed to back a Republican redistricting effort he had championed.

Overall, in the 2026 election cycle, President Trump has successfully endorsed nine U.S. Senate primary candidates, 101 U.S. House primary candidates, and eight state gubernatorial candidates. Although only one-third of Republican primary races have concluded, candidates receiving his seal of approval continue to hold a perfect record in primary victories. Trump’s winning streak also represents a higher success rate than his endorsement record in both 2018 and 2022.
