President Trump is issuing strong warnings to European nations over their lack of support for the U.S. in the ongoing military conflict with Iran. In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, he specifically called out the United Kingdom and urged the country to take action to access oil through the Strait of Hormuz.
“All of those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you,” President Trump said. “Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT.”
The Strait of Hormuz acts as a global passageway for approximately one-third of global oil and one-fifth of liquefied natural gas. Iran declared the Strait closed in early March, following the commencement of strikes by the U.S. and Israel at the end of February.
The Strait is a key focal point for negotiations that could bring an end to the conflict in Iran. Trump continued his statement by saying the U.S. would not be supportive in the future if allies like the U.K. did not take action to help open a critically important waterway.
“You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us,” President Trump said. “Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!”
President Trump continued by denouncing France for refusing to allow U.S. military planes to fly over French territory. His statements are consistent with the administration’s growing effort to persuade NATO allies to assist the U.S. in the ongoing conflict.
“The Country of France wouldn’t let planes headed to Israel, loaded up with military supplies, fly over French territory,” President Trump said. “France has been VERY UNHELPFUL with respect to the “Butcher of Iran,” who has been successfully eliminated! The U.S.A. will REMEMBER!!!”
