President Donald Trump reigned supreme in the anticipated CPAC straw poll, netting a staggering 62 percent of support among CPAC attendee respondents who indicated that the 45th president would be their choice in the 2024 Republican presidential primary election.
Trump’s incredible numbers presented a stark contrast to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, (R), who garnered just 20 percent of the vote. Trump’s dominance in the CPAC straw poll, which is conducted with McLaughlin & Associates, is a huge show of strong support going into a heated presidential election race.
In 2022, President Trump also garnered the lion’s share of the CPAC straw poll in Dallas, Texas, netting 69 percent of support among GOP primary voters. DeSantis actually lost four points from the last straw poll, dropping from 24 percent of support to just 20 percent between 2022 and 2023.
Impressively, poll results also revealed that President Trump is wildly popular with conservatives for his job performance while he was in the White House. 95 percent of respondents indicated approval of his job performance as president of the United States.
The poll also asked who Republican primary voters would like to see as Trump’s vice presidential pick in 2024. Kari Lake creamed the playing field, snagging 20 percent of the vote against Gov. DeSantis’s 14 percent. Declared GOP candidate and former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley accrued 10 percent of support for the position of vice president.
In the 2024 Republican primary poll, Haley only managed to drum up 3 percent of support from GOP voters. GOP candidate and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy grabbed 1 percent.
