A CBS News poll released over the weekend noted that President Donald Trump holds a 53 percent approval rating and 70 percent of voters believe he is keeping his campaign promises.

Voters overwhelmingly supported the president’s agenda in the poll, though many are still waiting for the economy to improve, according to the poll conducted Feb. 5-7.

In addition to positive approval numbers overall, 59 percent approved of the Trump administration’s program to deport illegal immigrants. That number included 64 percent who approved of Trump sending U.S. troops to the southern border.

More division existed when those in the poll were asked whether large detention centers should be used while determining who should be deported, with only 48 percent favoring and 52 percent opposing the idea.

In foreign policy, 54 percent approve of Trump’s current handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict. However, only 13 percent believe that the U.S. taking over Gaza would be a good idea.

Trump received widespread support on nearly all actions in the CBS News poll, except for the economy. A total of 66 percent said that Trump’s focus on lowering prices is not enough.

Trump has been in office less than one month, with the administration claiming that economic changes will likely take several months for many Americans to feel the impact.

The poll did not address some of Trump’s other major statements, such as suggesting that America take over Greenland or control of the Panama Canal.

Over two-thirds of GOP voters supported Trump’s interest in America taking over Greenland and the Panama Canal, according to a Rasmussen Reports survey last month.

A total of 73 percent of Republicans supported U.S. control of the Panama Canal, with 51 percent strongly supporting the action.

Concerning Greenland, 70 percent of GOP respondents agreed, including 45 percent who strongly support the change.

In contrast, only 23 percent of Democrats supported taking over Greenland, with just 22 percent supporting control of the Panama Canal.

Overall, 40 percent backed the purchase of Greenland, with 43 percent supporting U.S. control of the Panama Canal.
