Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., announced her decision to introduce articles of impeachment against Joe Biden. This call for impeachment comes as a direct result of his failure to adequately respond to the ongoing border crisis in Texas.
In a statement, Boebert explains why she has introduced the articles of impeachment a second time. “It’s about Joe Biden’s failure to secure the southern border,” she said.
Boebert explains further, “And I did this so at any time if the committees and or leadership does not step up and actually do something about the president’s failure to secure our southern border and keep the country safe, then I will call my legislation my articles of impeachment for a privileged motion.”
Currently, the southern border between Mexico and the U.S. is facing an influx of immigrants entering the country daily. According to Boebert, approximately 6 million illegal immigrants have entered the country since January 2021.
With the ending of Title 42 in May 2023, the border crisis continues to worsen as the act that allowed the relevant authorities to expel migrants quickly has now expired. The act was brought in as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic in a bid to prevent the spread of the disease to American citizens.
In response to the end of Biden’s Title 42, Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has expressed his opinion. “President Biden is laying down the welcome mat to people across the entire world,” said the governor.
It’s not just Boebert calling out the Biden administration. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also criticized the Biden administration’s response to the border crisis.
Speaking at a press conference in Florida about Biden, DeSantis said, “He needs to get in the game here, and he needs to defend our country’s sovereignty.”
Other reasons for Boebert’s introduction of impeachment articles include the Biden administration’s poor handling of the loss of contact with thousands of illegal and unaccompanied children. According to Boebert, Biden “is a direct threat to our national security.”
Currently, Boebert urges all Republicans to take immediate action against the Biden administration in hopes of tackling the migrant crisis.
