Following President Trump’s arraignment on charges related to his so-called handling of classified documents, numerous members of the House are slamming the Justice Department’s partisan investigation of the 45th president.
Moments before the congressional baseball was set to begin on Wednesday, GOP Florida Reps. Byron Donalds and Greg Steube took aim at the Biden administration’s investigation during an exclusive interview with Fox News.
“You have President Biden, whose running for reelection, his DOJ going after his number one contender in the general election next year,” Steube told Fox News. “That’s election interference.”
Steube also noted that if Trump was not polling with high levels of support, or was not running for president, the partisan investigation into his affairs would not be happening.
“It’s the complete weaponization of the DOJ and FBI,” said Steube.
Donalds, who sits on the House Oversight Committee, commented that investigators would likely not go after Joe Biden, who himself is currently under fire for reportedly keeping classified material that was not his to keep.
Donalds noted that because Biden is a Democrat, he would not be investigated.
“If a Democrat official is being investigated, the investigation takes forever,” said Donalds. “And they show up in the end when nobody’s watching and say, “‘Ah, it’s really not a big deal here.'”
President Trump pleaded “not guilty” to 37 charges related to his reported handling of classified documents.
The federal investigation against Trump is being spearheaded by Special Counsel Jack Smith, an appointee of U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.
