House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., who is leading the probe into the alleged corrupt business dealings of the Biden family, accused Hunter Biden’s legal team of “witness intimidation.”
Comer said during an interview with Fox News that Biden family lawyers had contacted potential witnesses assisting the probe in an effort to scare them from coming forward.
“In communication with our witnesses and with the people who are cooperating from a subpoena standpoint, we know that they have been contacted by the attorneys for Hunter Biden,” Comer told Fox News.
“We feel that this is really close to crossing the line,” he added. “Obviously, their objective in my opinion, is witness intimidation. This will not stand.”
Comer also claimed that Democrat officials were providing funds to “dark money groups” to intimidate him and House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, into easing up on their investigation into Hunter Biden.
“They have dark money groups that are trying to intimidate both me and Chairman Jim Jordan,” said Comer. “This isn’t helping their cause,” he added. “They’re not intimidating us. We’re going to press forward and present the facts to the American people.”
Comer added that he hopes Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Justice Department decide to “grant immunity” to the witnesses in order to protect them.
When asked to support his claims of intimidation with evidence, Comer told Fox News, “It depends on your definition of intimidation.”
“If you get a call from the lawyers and they remind you of your potential liability in some of these business schemes then yes, I would consider that witness intimidation,” said Comer.
Comer also announced that more information would be released soon that would “tell a very compelling story” about the Biden family’s “influence peddling.”
“In the coming days and weeks, a lot of information is going to come forward that’s going to tell a very compelling story to the American people about the extent of this family’s influence peddling,” said Comer.
Rep. Comer’s comments come after he and Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, revealed on Monday that there may be compelling information about Joe Biden’s involvement with illegal business dealings with foreign nationals based on information from a “highly credible” whistleblower.
The House Oversight Committee tweeted that according to the whistleblower, “this record details an alleged arrangement involving an exchange of money for policy decisions.”
