Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., announced through a Twitter post on Tuesday morning that she was “swatted for the 6th time last night.”
“I was swatted for the 6th time last night. Swatting is a very serious crime. The caller wants to have their victim murdered by police. But it is also a giant abuse of police resources and time, which is another reason it is a serious crime. God bless my local police,” Greene said.
The Georgia congresswoman has been targeted by swatters who make fake emergency calls to the police about a violent or dangerous situation that requires a response, as Axios notes. Swatting is used as a form of harassment that has led to deadly events.
In August, Greene shared that she was a victim of swatting after police officers responded to a 911 call early in the morning, leading them to believe that there was a man with multiple gunshot wounds lying in the bathtub of the congresswoman’s home, per RSBN. Greene assured police officers that everything was fine at her home.
According to The National Pulse, a police report obtained by a local newspaper stated that the alleged suspect called law enforcement again, taking responsibility for the incident.
“After we cleared the call and went back in service, Rome-Floyd 911 received a call from the suspect, claiming responsibility for the incident and explaining his/her motives,” the report claimed. “It was a computer generated voice. They explained they were upset about Ms. Greene’s stance on ‘trans-gender youth’s rights,’ and stated they were trying to ‘swat’ her.”
Greene announced the next day that she was swatted for a second time.
Fox 5 Atlanta reported that the Rome Police Department responded to a call on what was reportedly a suicide crisis line from an internet chat, just before 3:00 a.m. The police report revealed that the suspect allegedly claimed to be a transgender, who shot their family, and was planning to shoot themselves. The officers reported the call to be false after arriving at Greene’s home.
Former Georgia Republican gubernatorial candidate Kandiss Taylor also experienced a similar swatting call in July, with an individual falsely claiming that someone was murdered at her home, the outlet added.
“I don’t care what political party you are – this is evil. This is not OK. And I will find out who swatted my house. And I will do everything in my power to bring them to justice,” Taylor said.
