Republican congresswoman introduces legislation granting asylum to Canadian protestors

Rep. Yvette Herrell, R-N.M., announced she would be introducing legislation to temporarily grant asylum to “innocent Canadian protesters,” who are demanding an end to Canada’s tyrannical Covid-related mandates.

In a Twitter thread over the weekend, Herrell condemned Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s actions towards the peaceful protesters, comparing it to “an authoritarian regime like Venezuela.”

“Just as we provide asylum for political prisoners, we should do the same for truckers who have been subjected to violence, had their property confiscated, and their bank accounts frozen by a government that is quickly becoming the embarrassment of the free world,” Herrell wrote announcing her efforts to grant aid to protesters abroad.

“I am introducing legislation that would temporarily grant asylum to innocent Canadian protesters who are being persecuted by their own government,” she stated.

Herrell’s comments come after Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act, enabling the government to remove peaceful protestors forcibly.

Last week, videos emerged showing Ottawa police utilizing horses to intimidate protestors, which hospitalized one woman who was trampled as they attempted to make arrests and remove pro-freedom protestors off the streets.

Ottawa police further announced they would remove children from the care of parents who were participating in the protests. This move came a week after the government said it was considering bringing in a child protective service agency to take children from truckers.

Despite aggressive attempts from Canadian officials to shut down the protests, participants in the Freedom Convoy have remained exceedingly peaceful and respectful to law enforcement throughout the three-week demonstration.

A convoy of Canadian truckers first gathered at Parliament Hill in Ottawa in January to protest vaccine mandates requiring truckers coming from the United States to show proof of vaccination.

The fight for medical freedom in Canada has sparked similar protests worldwide, including in the United States.

Thousands of Americans will soon embark on the “People’s Convoy” to push back against radical Covid-related mandates at the state and federal levels.

Roughly 1,000 truckers are reported to kick off the convoy in Barstow, California, and voyage to Washington D.C.
