After House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., announced that he would formally direct the House to open an impeachment inquiry on President Joe Biden, many Republicans quickly reacted to the news.

“Everyone knows the Biden family business was selling access to “The Big Guy” for foreign cash with Hunter as the bag man. It’s corrupt as can be,” Rep. Harriet Hageman, R-Wyo., posted on X shortly after McCarthy spoke. “Thanks to @SpeakerMcCarthy, we’ll now get to the bottom of this, and I look forward to being a leader on it with House Judiciary.”

The probe into the president has been an ongoing battle for Republicans, especially regarding his youngest son, Hunter Biden. Both Bidens have been involved in a deeper investigation that picked up traction by the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability

However, a big leader who has been pushing for McCarthy to open a formal impeachment inquiry has been Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., making her demands clear to Congress last month regarding the issue.

In a bold move to block voting on a short-term funding bill, Greene stated that she would not “vote to fund the government” unless a series of demands were met, including an impeachment inquiry.

“I want to see a very deep dive, a detailed investigation no matter how long it takes…We need to investigate Joe Biden. But we also need to investigate the web of people that exist in our federal agencies — the FBI, the DOJ, the CIA, and many others,” Greene stated in response to McCarthy’s recent actions.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., also commented on social media, applauding the House’s move.

The three committees that will be involved in the inquiry will be the House Judiciary, Oversight and Accountability and Ways and Means.
