We may not know which party will control the House or Senate for several more days, but we do know that the GOP has managed to win an impressive number of votes so far.
According to data provided by the Cook Political Report as of Nov. 11, Republicans have won nearly six million more votes in House races than Democrats. Based on the data, the Republican Party has received 52.1 percent of the vote, while Democrats have received 46.4 percent of the vote.
While the number of seats that Republicans have gained in the midterm elections is expected to grow as results continue to roll in, it represents a puzzling disconnect between the number of votes Republican candidates received and the number of seats Republicans have flipped, as Breitbart noted.
The latest numbers from Fox News indicate that currently, the projected balance of power in the House of Representatives is 211 Republicans and 196 Democrats. 218 seats are required for a majority in the House. The good news for Republicans is that the GOP is on track to take the majority in the House despite the results falling short of a “red wave” or “tsunami” that many Republicans anticipated.
Weighing in on the results, President Donald Trump has maintained that the election was successful in many ways. Sharing his thoughts on Truth Social Wednesday, Trump stated, “While in certain ways yesterday’s election was somewhat disappointing, from my personal standpoint it was a very big victory.”
As the final votes continue to be reported, Republicans will have to wait and see if their near-six million vote advantage is enough to secure a Republican majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
