The Republican National Committee and the Georgia Republican Party have asked a state appeals court to overturn the ruling of Fulton County Superior Court Judge Thomas Cox.

The judge ruled on Wednesday that the board does not have the authority to put seven rules into effect.

“By overturning the Georgia State Election Board’s commonsense rules passed to safeguard Georgia’s elections, the judge sided with the Democrats in their attacks on transparency, accountability, and the integrity of our elections,” RNC Chairman Whatley said.

“We have immediately appealed this egregious order to ensure commonsense rules are in place for the election – we will not let this stand,” he added.

The rules blocked by Cox’s ruling include requiring that ballots be hand-counted by each precinct, allowing a “reasonable inquiry” to be undertaken by election workers ahead of certification and letting election officials examine election-related documentation created during the conduct of elections.

Another rule requires the total number of voters to be reconciled with the total number of votes. “There should not be more ballots than voters casting them, plain and simple,” the RNC stated in a previous news release.

“Additionally, the Board passed drop box safeguards, which provides more transparency, mandates Voter ID, and 24-hour surveillance of all drop boxes. Registrars must make a daily reporting system for the total number of voters that have participated, including early voting.

Tabulation centers now have additional areas for poll watcher access to view tabulation and reconciliation processes,” the RNC noted.

The situation is one of many recently addressed by the RNC ahead of the November election. The group sued the City of Detroit Department of Elections for deleting drop box surveillance footage after it had be requested, RSBN reported on Thursday.

The RNC asserts that the move violates the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and raises serious election integrity alarms.

“Deleting drop box surveillance footage while there is a pending FOIA request for it is an assault on transparency. This breach of trust is exactly what reduces confidence in our elections,” RNC Chairman Michael Whatley stated.

“We will hold Detroit accountable, as this secrecy has no place in a fair and secure election — Michiganders deserve far better,” he added.
