The Republican National Committee (RNC) is pulling ahead of Democrats in terms of fundraising as the 2022 midterm election cycle gears up, according to numbers obtained by Fox News.
The RNC raised $158.6 million in 2021, while their competitor, the Democrat National Committee (DNC), raised $157 million throughout 2021. In December, the RNC brought in an impressive $11.3 million while the DNC brought in $10.7 million.
Paris Dennard, GOP National Spokesman and Director of Black Media Affairs, took to Twitter to congratulate RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel for a successful year of fundraising.
McDaniel said in a statement to Fox News, “Biden and Democrats are failing, and Americans are turning towards the Republican Party’s proven agenda.”
Currently, Republicans only need to flip five seats in the House of Representatives and just one in the Senate in order to gain the majority. With Biden’s poll numbers underwater, the possibility of a Republican-controlled legislature is on the cusp of reality.
While fundraising numbers were high for the GOP last year, the DNC still ended 2021 with more cash on hand. The DNC reported having $65 million while the RNC reported $56.3 million on hand.
However, President Trump alone ended 2021 with a total of $122 million in cash on hand.
Both parties were proud of their fundraising numbers over the course of 2021, boasting that they broke record numbers for fundraising the year after a presidential election, according to Fox News.
McDaniel also highlighted to Fox News that the RNC is, “holding Biden and Democrats accountable, and is building the infrastructure to take back the House and Senate in 2022.”
