A San Diego migrant processing center has been closed following the massive drop in illegal immigrants to the area under President Donald Trump’s border policies, according the sector’s Chief Patrol Acting Agent Jeffrey Stalnaker.
A video of the center being dismantled was posted to X on Sunday.
“Due to the unprecedented decrease in illegal crossings this year, the massive 1,000 person, San Diego Sector Soft Sided Facility has been dismantled. In 3/2025, San Diego Sector arrested 1,199 illegal aliens with an average of 38 per day. This was a 186% drop compared to 3/2024,” Stalnaker posted to X.
The move comes after Border Patrol statistics from April showed that fewer than 10,000 illegal crossings occurred at the southern border in April, marking a 93 percent drop from the same period last year.
“The Biden Administration refused to enforce our nation’s laws when it came to border security. This allowed millions of illegal aliens – including criminals, gang members, and terrorists – into our country,” the Department of Homeland Security said in a press release to mark Trump’s first 100 days in office.
“But in just 100 days, President Trump and Secretary Noem have not only closed our border but have delivered the most secure border in American history,” it continued.
In March, the U.S. recorded the lowest monthly number of border encounters in history, with fewer than 7,200 incidents. The previous month, February, also saw a record low in daily encounters, dropping below 200, according to the press release.
These declines coincided with a significant drop in drug trafficking at the southern border. Fentanyl smuggling in March 2025 fell by 54 percent compared to the same month in 2024. This sharp decline followed successful negotiations by President Trump, which led to a major crackdown by Mexican authorities. Mexico seized 1,500 kilograms of fentanyl—its largest seizure on record—and arrested over 6,000 drug traffickers.
Arrests and deportations of illegal immigrants have also surged under the new administration. In its first 100 days, the Trump Administration arrested more than 151,000 illegal aliens and deported over 135,000.
Among those apprehended or removed were 600 members of the violent Tren De Aragua gang, along with thousands of MS-13 and 18th Street Gang members who have since fled the country. These enforcement figures have already surpassed the totals for the entire 2024 fiscal year.
