The Trump legal team scored a temporary but meaningful victory on Tuesday from the U.S. Supreme Court as Chief Justice John Roberts blocked President Trump from being required to turn his tax records over to partisan Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee, per Fox News.

According to SCOTUSblog, Trump previously had asked the Supreme Court to block the Committee from getting his tax records: “The D.C. Circuit previously ruled that the committee may access the records. Trump’s emergency request asks SCOTUS to put that ruling on hold,” per their tweet.

Chief Justice Roberts’ order stated, “Upon consideration of the application of counsel for the applicants, it is ordered that the mandate of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, case 21-5289, is hereby stayed pending further order of the undersigned or of the Court. It is further ordered that a response to the application be filed on or before Thursday, November 10, 2022 by noon (EST).”

According to Fox News, the House Ways and Means Committee initially requested six years of tax returns from President Trump in 2019.

President Trump has often decried the ongoing political “witch hunts” perpetrated against him since he announced the launch of his first presidential campaign in 2016. On Sunday, Trump took to Truth Social to slam the ongoing political persecution hitting from all sides. “The Witch Hunt continues, and after six years and millions of pages of documents, they’ve got nothing,” Trump wrote.

He said, “If I had what Hunter and Joe had, it would be the Electric Chair. Our Country is rigged, Crooked, and Evil – We must bring it back, and FAST. Next stop, Communism!”

Via Axios, had the Supreme Court not granted the stay, Trump’s tax records would have been released as soon as Thursday to the Committee. Now, the Committee will have to issue a response to the order by Nov. 10, as stated by the court.
