The U.S. Supreme Court has set a date for issuing possible opinions this week, drawing speculation about whether it may issue a decision on President Trump’s tariff authority.
According to the Supreme Court’s website, Friday, January 9, may include the release of opinions, although it is not known what cases the court will be deciding.
Currently, the president has levied global tariffs by leveraging the Emergency Economic Powers Act, and the court’s decision on his executive authority on the use of the act will determine the administration’s continued trade policies.
“The USA markets just hit another ALL TIME HIGH – ALL OF THEM!!!” the president said on Truth Social this week, nodding to his use of tariffs.
He continued, “THANK YOU YOU MISTER TARIFF!!! PRAY THAT THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT ALLOWS OUR COUNTRY TO CONTINUE ITS UNPRECEDENTED MARCH TOWARD UNPARALLELED GREATNESS! BOTH OUR NATIONAL AND FINANCIAL SECURITY HAVE NEVER BEEN STRONGER!”
This is not the first time the president has remarked that Americans should “pray” for the Supreme Court to rule in favor of tariffs.
Just last month, he emphasized the importance of tariffs for his administration and urged Americans to pray for the U.S. Supreme Court to rule with wisdom on this issue.
“The TARIFFS are responsible for the GREAT USA Economic Numbers JUST ANNOUNCED…AND THEY WILL ONLY GET BETTER!” he argued.
According to the U.S. Treasury Department, the U.S. collected a whopping $195 billion in tariff revenue for FY 2025, and President Trump on Monday claimed that tariff revenue could soon exceed $600 billion.
“Because of Tariffs, our Country is financially, AND FROM A NATIONAL SECURITY STANDPOINT, FAR STRONGER AND MORE RESPECTED THAN EVER BEFORE. GOD BLESS AMERICA!” the president remarked.
Friday’s potential opinions issued by the Supreme Court may include the tariff decision, but they also may not. The justices are expected to decide on the case by the end of the term, regardless.
