Arkansas Republican Sen. Tom Cotton stated that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has been targeting President Donald Trump and his supporters, claiming this practice will end after Trump wins the presidential election in November.

Cotton discusses the controversial subject during a Monday interview on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show.

“Jack Smith has pursued deranged, fanatical legal theories the Supreme Court continues to reject as Jack Smith loses every time he goes to that court,” Cotton told Hewitt.

“They have used investigative tactics and techniques against every grandma in a red MAGA hat who was within a country mile of the Capitol on the Jan. 6 riots,” he added.

Cotton also noted that “they are not using, for instance, against the antifa and the BLM rioters, or the Democratic street militias that were marching outside of Supreme Court justices’ homes, or that have been vandalizing statues of veterans in direct violation of federal law and occupying college campuses and federal lands. They haven’t used any of those tactics.”

The senator noted the attacks as discrimination against Americans that must stop.

“They’ve been pursuing people who are saying prayers outside of abortion clinics when they’re not investigating pro-Hamas lunatics who are conducting nascent pogroms against Jews across America,” Cotton argued.

“Of course, the Department of Justice has been used to target Donald Trump and Donald Trump’s supporters. That has to stop, and it will stop after we send Joe Biden home,” he continued.

Cotton was also recently noted as a potential vice presidential pick to run alongside Trump. He responded to the speculation during a Sunday interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“If the President asked me to serve in any capacity, I would, of course, entertain it,” Cotton said. “But right now, I’m very happy being a senator representing the people of Arkansas and working to elect President Trump and a majority in the Congress so we can begin to repair some of the damage that Joe Biden and the Democrats inflicted over these last four years.”

In addition to Cotton, Trump’s shortlist of potential running mates has included Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin has also been noted.

Female running mates have also been suggested, including New York Rep. Elise Stefanik.
