Sen. Lindsey Graham declares ‘Build Back Better is dead’

Senator Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., declared Monday that the Biden administration’s Build Back Better bill is “dead.”

Graham’s statement came just one day after Senator Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., announced that he could not vote for Biden’s Build Back Better agenda. Lindsey Graham stated, “Build Back Better is dead, not for just 2021, but forever.”

In his statement, Sen. Graham explained, “I can’t think of a worse recipe for inflation than passing the bill that would spend $5 trillion.” Graham also reiterated the concern millions of Americans have concerning Biden’s Build Back Better agenda, saying, “It is not paid for.”

While the Biden administration has claimed that Build Back Better would not add to the deficit because it would be paid for by increased taxes on the rich and on major corporations, the facts do not support his claims. In reality, millions of Americans would suffer under increased taxes and continued inflation.

Sen. Lindsey Graham appeared to reference Sen. Joe Manchin’s decision, saying, “If you really don’t want to vote for a bill that adds to the deficit, then you can’t vote for Build Back Better.” Graham continued, “If you don’t want to vote for a bill full of gimmicks, you cannot vote for Build Back Better.”

In recent weeks, the Biden administration has tried to convince Joe Manchin to support the bill, holding multiple discussions between the White House and the senator from West Virginia. The White House has insisted for months that Build Back Better costs “zero dollars.”

Graham provided a sharp contrast to Biden’s claim, saying, “Five trillion dollars is the true cost because these programs never go away.” While the White House has attempted to convince Americans that the cost of Build Back Better would not affect them, Americans are more likely to listen to Graham’s warning that Biden’s agenda could cost $5 trillion.

Manchin shocked Democrat leadership on Sunday, when he announced his decision on Fox News, saying, “This is a no on this legislation. I have tried everything I know to do.” Despite facing pressure from the White House and Democrat leadership, Manchin said, “I cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation. I just can’t.”

While Manchin has been the target of the Democrats’ outrage over the past two days, Graham’s declaration that the Build Back Better agenda is “dead forever” will only add to the frustration of the Biden administration.

As Americans celebrate Christmas this week, they can celebrate the gift of not having to suffer the consequences of Biden’s disastrous Build Back Better agenda.
