Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., predicted recently that the Republican Party is on track to seize a 55-seat majority in the Senate, based on recent polling and voter enthusiasm that has pivoted toward the GOP this year.
According to a report from The Hill, Scott’s comments were made at the Republican Black Community Center: “It starts right here, we’re going to get 52 Republican senators, we have to win here…I think we can get 53, 54, 55.”
Scott’s predictions are on par with what recent pollsters have teased in the weeks leading up to Election Day. Real Clear Politics’ most recent Senate projection has Republicans netting 53 seats in the Senate and Democrats netting 47, indicating a +3 net change toward the GOP in November.
Projected GOP pick-ups include Nevada and Arizona, according to their research.
Another Real Clear Politics’ forecast recently projected 221 House seats for the GOP after Nov. 8 to Democrats’ projected 178. 36 toss-up seats are in play, and many of them are expected to lean red.
In another poll conducted Oct. 12 to Oct. 17 by McLaughlin & Associates, the Generic Ballot revealed Republicans are holding a six-point lead over Democrats, further widening the gap as the midterms approach. In fact, the closer Election Day gets, the higher Republican candidates have been polling.
For example, Republican Michigan gubernatorial nominee Tudor Dixon had been consistently trailing Michigan Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer going into Election Day, but a new projection from Real Clear Politics has projected Dixon will dethrone Whitmer on Nov. 8.
Sen. Scott’s prediction for the Senate painted an optimistic picture of where the midterms are likely headed. Per The Hill, Scott commented on election night, stating, “I’m optimistic it’s going to be a good night and we have good candidates, they’re running good races. There’s a lot of energy.”
