Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz argued that former President Donald Trump has flipped the traditional storyline of the GOP, highlighting the 45th president as the best representative of the working class in 2024.

Cruz shared the perspective during a Fox News interview on “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“The old conventional wisdom used to be that Republicans are the party of the rich and Democrats are the party of the poor and the working class. That has been turned on its head today,” Cruz stated.

Democrats now increasingly represent the coastal elites of America, while Republicans are working to become the voice of blue-collar workers.

“The people who are working waiting tables and in tip professions, whether you’re a golf caddy or taxi cab driver, those are often people that are starting to climb the economic ladder,” the Texas senator added.

Cruz’s interview also followed Trump’s Detroit rally on Saturday emphasizing tax cuts to help American workers. The push also included a call to end taxes on tips for U.S. workers.

The GOP senator contrasted the perspective with Joe Biden, who recently raised $30 million during a Hollywood fundraiser featuring top celebrities, including George Clooney and Julia Roberts.

Biden also hosted a New York City fundraiser in April that reportedly hauled in over $25 million.

The Biden administration has also promoted ongoing efforts to cancel college student debt, a move facing strong criticism from working-class Americans. Just three in 10 Americans recently surveyed approve of the president’s student loan forgiveness efforts, according to a poll from the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

Trump also recently took to his platform on Truth Social to highlight his push to end taxes on tips and to end the Biden administration’s expanding IRS efforts.

“I am the only Candidate who has ever called for delivering relief to our wonderful Service Workers by NOT TAXING THEIR TIPS,” he wrote.

“It was my idea that Tips should not be taxed, and only I will GET IT DONE – And do it IMMEDIATELY upon my return to the White House. Crooked Joe Biden has taken the totally opposite approach, trying to TAX more and more of their Tips, even hiring 88,000 IRS Agents to collect!” he added.
