President Donald Trump criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for copying his policies in her run for president, joking that he was going to “send her a MAGA hat.”

The response came early during the presidential debate, offering a strong response to her changing stands on a variety of issues.

“Everything that she believed three years and four years ago, is out the window. She’s going to my philosophy now. In fact, I was going to send her a MAGA hat. She’s gone to my philosophy,” Trump stated during the debate.

“But if she ever got elected she’d change it and it will be the end of our country. She’s a Marxist. Everybody knows she’s a Marxist. Her father’s a Marxist professor in economics and he taught her well. But when you look at what she’s done to our country, and when you look at these millions and millions of people that are pouring into our country monthly, where I believe it’s 21 million people, not the 15 [million] that people say, and I think it’s a lot higher than 21. That’s bigger than New York State pouring in,” he added.

The 90-minute debate was hosted by ABC News and was moderated by “World News Tonight” anchor David Muir and “ABC News Live Prime” anchor Linsey Davis. There was no audience in attendance. Microphones were muted when it was not a candidate’s turn to speak.

In addition to the economy, topics included abortion, inflation, crime and border security. Harris often referred to Trump’s words as the “same old playbook.”

Trump responded to several policy changes by Harris, including fracking, defunding the police and no tax on tips.

He also referred to many of the claims by the vice president as “lies,” calling out the weaponization of the justice system against him during his presidential campaign.

“I probably took a bullet to the head because of the things that they say about me. They say I’m a threat to democracy. They’re the threat to democracy!” Trump later said.
