Eugene Yu, the CEO of a software company engaged in election data tracking, Konnech, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly taking poll workers’ personal information and storing it on Chinese computer servers, according to the New York Post.

Some conservative commentators have speculated that Yu’s arrest was directly spurred by data provided by election integrity organization True the Vote. “True the Vote said Konnech, an election software company, stored US poll data on Chinese servers,” Dinesh D’Souza remarked on Thursday.

D’Souza worked extensively with True the Vote on his hit documentary exposing evidence of a nationwide ballot trafficking conspiracy, “2000 Mules.”

“The @nytimes derided this as a ‘conspiracy theory’ from a ‘far right’ group,” D’Souza continued. “Now Konnech CEO Eugene Yu has been arrested for illegally storing US poll worker data on Chinese servers.”

D’Souza further expands on the arrest of Konnech’s CEO

Last month, Konnech sued True the Vote over claims regarding the alleged illegal storage of information on Chinese servers. Yu’s arrest seems to have vindicated True the Vote, and the organization released an official statement directly addressing the situation on Tuesday:

“True the Vote is honored to have played a small role in what must have been a wide ranging and complex investigation. The organization is profoundly grateful to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office for their thorough work and rapid action in this matter.

True the Vote was sued last month by Konnech to try to silence our organization, including obtaining an ex-parte TRO, conducted in secret so that True the Vote had no opportunity to contest it. This TRO limited True the Vote’s ability to speak on the litigation. Today Konnech CEO Eugene Yu was arrested based on alleged evidence of the very activities he and his organization attempted to suppress. Konnech was assisted by many reporters who unblinkingly accepted their now discredited claims as fact, and simply repeated them.”

According to the New York Post’s report, Konnech was previously awarded a $2.9 million contract with LA county to provide the software to track election workers’ schedules, payroll information, communications, and so forth. Per the outlet, Yu allegedly stole data from potentially hundreds of election workers in California.

Catherine Engelbrecht, the founder of True the Vote, reiterated, “Election integrity should not be a partisan issue, nor should media try to suppress all conversation about it in a way that benefits one party.”
