South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem praised former President Donald Trump during a rally speech, calling him the “only person” to stand up and help her fight for voters’ “constitutional freedoms.”

Noem posted to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Sunday, revealing a clip from a speech given while supporting the former president. The South Dakota governor stated that within the “last several years,” Trump has been the only one to help fight for the people of the state’s “constitutional freedoms.”

“The last several years, it has been an all-out war on your constitutional freedoms. And the only person who ever stood up and helped me fight to defend my people in South Dakota’s constitutional freedom was Donald J. Trump. He was the only person,” Noem stated.

Noem has been a supporter of Trump, previously endorsing him in September 2023 during a state rally, according to Politico. During her endorsement speech, Noem gave her promise to do “everything I can to help him win and save this country,” the outlet reported.

“He is the leader, the fighter that our country needs. He has my full and complete endorsement for President of the United States of America,” Noem stated, according to Politico.

The two political figures notably worked together during the 2020 pandemic, with Noem stating that the 45th president allowed her to do her “job,” the outlet reported. “When the rest of the country was locking down and ordering people to stay home, we did the exact opposite,” she stated.

An Emerson College poll from October 2023 predicted that in a hypothetical general election between Biden and Trump, the 45th president would lead by an estimated 22 points, according to the data.
