President Donald Trump delivered joint remarks on Friday with House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., which focused on the overwhelming importance of securing election integrity ahead of the November 2024 general election.
Speaker Johnson stated, “Election integrity is tied to border security.”
He explained that both he and President Trump believed that Joe Biden and his administration were deliberately facilitating the mass influx of illegal migrants into the United States so that they would register to vote Democrat this year.
Johnson also revealed that House Republicans would be introducing a bill that would require proof of citizenship to vote in the United States, because right now, that is not a requirement.
“We will do everything within our power to ensure that we do have free and fair elections in this country,” Speaker Johnson promised.
In an official statement that was released in tandem with the press conference in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump’s campaign announced that Speaker Johnson had agreed to hold a series of public committee hearings over the next two months related to election integrity.
Via their statement:
Speaker Johnson agreed to hold a series of public committee hearings over the next two months which will provide Members the opportunity to fact-find in advance of potential legislation to further safeguard our elections from interference.
The hearings will be televised, and they will cover mail-in voting processes and handling procedures, voter registration list maintenance (and National Voter Registration Act compliance), and preparations for the 2024 presidential election.
“Truthfulness and transparency are critical for ensuring the public’s confidence in our elections and should be a bipartisan goal we all share,” the campaign stated.
