House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., met with President Donald Trump on Monday in Palm Beach, Florida.

On X, Speaker Johnson posted a photo of the two of them together on Presidents’ Day, writing, “Just had a great meeting with President @realDonaldTrump this Presidents’ Day. Together, we will grow the majority and save America!”

Johnson has been a stalwart supporter of President Trump, and in November 2023, he officially endorsed the president’s 2024 reelection bid.

In November 2024, the Republican Party is looking to expand its narrow majority and possibly retake the Senate in cohesion with a prospective victory for President Trump in the general election.

Such a political combination would represent an earthquake in Washington, D.C., and allow President Trump, upon a prospective 2025 administration, to have access to more legislative tools with a Republican supermajority.

Speaker Johnson has been a solid conservative force in the House of Representatives since winning the gavel last fall, following former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy’s, R-Calif., sudden ouster.

Last week, under the leadership of Speaker Johnson, the House successfully voted to impeach U.S. Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas for his refusal to comply with federal immigration law.

In a statement, Speaker Johnson explained, “Alejandro Mayorkas deserves to be impeached, and Congress has a constitutional obligation to do so. Next to a declaration of war, impeachment is arguably the most serious authority given to the House and we have treated this matter accordingly.”

Speaker Johnson has also appeared to align himself with President Trump’s common-sense call for border security. He recently eviscerated Joe Biden for refusing to utilize his executive authority to secure the southern border and stated that there were “No more excuses” for Biden when it came to his refusal to address the problem.
