During an interview with Tucker Carlson, Steve Bannon, a former White House chief strategist for President Trump, said that he would still be serving his country in a jail cell.
Earlier this month, Bannon was convicted on two counts of contempt of Congress and ordered to serve a four-month prison sentence.
It was only last week that Bannon was ordered to report to prison by July 1 to serve his sentence. According to CBS News, Bannon has filed an appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington to stay out of jail while he issues further appeals.
During the interview, Carlson acknowledged that Bannon was being persecuted for his politics and then asked Bannon how he felt about the prospect of going to jail and why he was so calm.
Bannon told Carlson, “So, in my twenties, I served my country on a Navy destroyer and in my seventies, I’ll serve my country in a federal prison.”
As to his cool demeanor, Bannon revealed that spending time in jail won’t change his life as he doesn’t have a social agenda and is dedicated to saving the country. Bannon added, “If I have to be a political prisoner, I’ll be a political prisoner.”
Bannon revealed to Carlson that when he was in the federal courthouse, the man who was running the place was surprised at the charges against Bannon. He revealed to Bannon that in the 30 years he worked there, he never remembered a misdemeanor being prosecuted.
In closing, Bannon said, “Whatever it takes to win this revolution, we got to do.”
