Sunday Devotional: Providence knows best

During the American Revolution, General George Washington constantly relied on Providence (God) for heavenly direction against the greatest army at that time, the British Empire.

Whether it was his risky escape from New York or reliance on God at Valley Forge, Washington knew God was involved in the patriot cause.

Similarly, President Donald Trump has endured many trials and tribulations, notably assassination attempts. After the July 13th assassination attempt, Trump, like Washington, brought up providence and reliance on God for earthly matters.

Trump’s supporters knew God played a role in his survival on July 13 and often asked themselves how much more could the former president endure in constant legal and physical attacks.

The adherence to divine providence was right for both Washington and Trump. They both acknowledged that God’s will was carried out in a heavenly way that was difficult for humans to understand.

In the end, Washington and the colonists became victorious and received independence. Likewise, despite facing numerous obstacles, both Washington and Trump managed to overcome the odds and become president.

Trusting in God is the fundamental principle in both history and our current times. Whether a nation is facing a military threat, or an individual is enduring difficult times, Providence knows best.

Things may not always turn out as we desire but trusting in God in both the good and challenging times gives us a sense of comfort that only God can provide.

Courage is an attribute given by God, but so is faith. Faith will always determine the outcome of any given situation.

Analyzing history not only proves to be an apologetic tool for Christianity but also reassures us that God does not abandon His people. From ending slavery to liberating Europe twice in world wars, God has blessed the United States in both the past and present.

Allow the recent election to solidify that God’s will is being carried out within our nation’s present times.

However, we also know the same goal still applies, fulfilling the Great Commission. We, as Christians, are called to prioritize sharing the Gospel with all and stand firm in the foundational principles of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
