California Rep. Kevin Kiley (R) has drawn attention to the shocking discovery of an allegedly illegal bio lab in Las Vegas, Nevada, that may be directly linked to an illegal bio lab discovered in Reedley, California, in 2023.
While speaking on the floor, Rep. Kiley described the situation as a “serious national security issue that requires the immediate attention and immediate action from the United States Congress.”
The lab uncovered in California in 2023 was shocking enough on its own. As reported by RSBN, a thorough search of the facility revealed that it was an unlicensed and illegal Chinese-owned bio lab operating in the bowels of an abandoned warehouse.
Found inside the lab were hundreds of Covid-infected mice, as well as bacterial, parasitic, and viral solutions, including E. coli, Malaria, and HIV.
“The lab just raided in Vegas was operated by the same LLC and same Chinese nationals as the one discovered in Reedley,” Rep. Kiley said.
He referenced an investigative report from the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, noting that its conclusion on the Reedley biolab debacle was this: “No one knows whether if there are other biolabs because there is no monitoring system in place…now we know there was at least one other such lab.”
The reportedly illegal lab in Las Vegas is eerily similar to its alleged Reedley counterpart. According to the Associated Press, it is linked to the same individual who owned the unlawful lab in California in 2023. Investigators reportedly located evidence of potential biological material and vials of unknown liquids, the outlet reported.
The question now is how many other potentially dangerous biolabs are operating in the United States, posing a serious public safety risk?
This is a threat Rep. Kiley, alongside Democrat California Rep. Jim Costa are intent on addressing. They renewed their push for their bipartisan bill, the “Preventing Illegal Laboratories and Protecting Public Health Act of 2025.” This legislation would strengthen federal oversight of highly pathogenic agents and laboratories.
“This can’t keep happening,” said Rep. Kiley in an official statement. “The federal government must do more to stop illegal labs from operating in our communities. This bipartisan bill closes loopholes that allow dangerous facilities like these to operate under the radar.”
