President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he is ending a Biden-era concession agreement with Venezuela.
The president shared the announcement on his Truth Social account that will also end oil company Chevron from the ability to operate in the South American nation.
“We are hereby reversing the concessions that Crooked Joe Biden gave to Nicolás Maduro, of Venezuela, on the oil transaction agreement, dated November 26, 2022, and also having to do with Electoral conditions within Venezuela, which have not been met by the Maduro regime,” Trump wrote.
Trump also noted that Venezuela has not followed through on its plans to take back migrant criminals from the U.S.
“Additionally, the regime has not been transporting the violent criminals that they sent into our Country (the Good Ole’ U.S.A.) back to Venezuela at the rapid pace that they had agreed to,” he continued.
The president noted that the concession agreement would end starting March 1.
“I am therefore ordering that the ineffective and unmet Biden ‘Concession Agreement’ be terminated as of the March 1st option to renew. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump concluded.
Venezuela Vice President Delcy Rodriguez blasted Trump’s decision in a post on Telegram.
“In its attempt to harm the Venezuelan people, it is in fact hurting the United States, its population and its companies, and also calling into question the legal security of the U.S.’s international investment regime,” she wrote.
“Venezuela emphasizes that these kinds of failed decisions prompted the migration from 2017 to 2021 with the widely known consequences,” the Venezuelan vice president added.
Trump previously celebrated the return of six Americans held captive in Venezuela earlier this month, adding that the South American country also agreed to take back its illegal immigrants from the U.S.
The president shared the news in a post to his Truth Social account following the release of six American prisoners.
“It is so good to have the Venezuela Hostages back home and, very important to note, that Venezuela has agreed to receive, back into their Country, all Venezuela illegal aliens who were encamped in the U.S., including gang members of Tren de Aragua,” Trump wrote.
“Venezuela has further agreed to supply the transportation back. We are in the process of removing record numbers of illegal aliens from all Countries, and all Countries have agreed to accept these illegal aliens back. Furthermore, record numbers of criminals are being removed from our Country, and the Border numbers are the strongest they have been since the First Term of the Trump Administration!” he added.
