After days of uncertainty, President Donald Trump was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury on Thursday afternoon, according to The New York Times.
The outlet reported that “five people with knowledge of the matter” claimed that the jury voted to indict Trump over the alleged “hush money” payments to Stormy Daniels. These allegations that have since been debunked by a letter shared by Trump on Truth Social that was written by Daniels herself, denying the affair and payment in 2018.
The newspaper claims the indictment will likely be officially announced by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office in the days ahead.
According to the outlet, prosecutors will have already asked President Trump “to surrender and face arraignment on charges that remain unknown for now” by the time an indictment is announced.
News of the indictment comes after President Trump suggested the case may have already been dropped amid silence from the Manhattan DA’s office.
He wrote on Truth Social last weekend:
“I have no idea what’s going to happen. But I can tell you that they have no case, so I think…I think they’ve already dropped the case, from what I understand. I think it’s been dropped. But I believe that if anything ever happened with the case that’s a fake case – it’s a fake case. They have absolutely nothing. They have it in reverse.”
President Trump has released a statement on the indictment, blasting the investigation as “election interference” and predicting it will “backfire massively on Joe Biden.”
