President Donald Trump issued scathing remarks towards Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., for reportedly stalling the confirmation process of those nominated to serve in the Trump administration.
While Congress typically enters recess in August, the president urged Senate Republicans to continue voting to confirm more nominees, with 140 still remaining, according to Roll Call.
However, Schumer reportedly demanded that the president unfreeze roughly $1 billion in foreign aid and National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding, or the confirmations would halt, essentially holding the process hostage, JustTheNews reported.
In response, President Trump did not hold back his words to Schumer, telling the minority leader to “Go to Hell!”
“Senator Cryin’ Chuck Schumer is demanding over One Billion Dollars to approve a small number of our highly qualified nominees, who should right now be helping to run our Country,” the president wrote in a post to Truth Social on Saturday. “This demand is egregious and unprecedented, and would be embarrassing to the Republican Party if it were accepted. It is political extortion, by any other name.”
He continued, “Tell Schumer, who is under tremendous political pressure from within his own party, the Radical Left Lunatics, to GO TO HELL! Do not accept the offer, go home and explain to your constituents what bad people the Democrats are, and what a great job the Republicans are doing, and have done, for our Country. Have a great RECESS and, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”
The Senate confirmed additional nominees on Friday and Saturday, later adjourning without Republicans, Democrats, and the president coming to a deal on nominees, according to JustTheNews.
Nonetheless, in a separate post, the president thanked Senate Republicans for staying in session longer than expected to confirm more nominees, despite Democratic opposition.
“Very proud of our great Republican Senators for fighting, over the Weekend and far beyond, if necessary, in order to get my great Appointments approved, and on their way to helping us MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” the president wrote.
He added, “The Radical Left Democrat Senators are doing everything possible to DELAY these wonderful and talented people from being approved. If George Washington or Abraham Lincoln were up for approval, the Dems would delay, as long as possible, then vote them out. The Democrats want our Country to fail, because they have failed.”
“Thank you to Senator John Thune and our Republican Warriors in the Senate. Fight and WIN. I am with you all the way!!! DJT,” he concluded.
